Ping pong and officially known as table tennis is an age old game and sport. It has been in America dating all the way back to the 1900s. The game is played on a hard table divided by a net. A player has to allow a ball to be played toward them and only one bounce on their sided of the table and then it must return o that it bounces on the opposite side. Points are scored when a player fails to return the ball within the rules.

Like all sports there are rules and regulations. From the beginning up until now the requirements have not changed much. The tale requirements like the rest have no changed since the 1900s. The table requirements are 2.74 meters by 1.52 meters (9 feet by 5 feet) which is an area of 4.18 square meters (45 square feet).

The sport of table tennis is now played in the Olympics, but not always. Only since 1988 has the sport of table tennis been an event in the Olympics. It debuted in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. From 1988 up to 2004, the events of table tennis were men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles and women's doubles. Now since the 2008 Olympics the doubles have been replaced by the team events. In 2008 Olympics in Beijing, it was the first time that table tennis was a team event.
